Most people automatically associate the topic of breast surgery with breast augmentation. Although breast augmentation is the most popular form of breast surgery, breast lifts are making their way further into the public eye. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, more than 90,000 breast lifts were performed in 2013. This is up 70 percent when compared to the approximately 53,000 breast lifts that were performed in 2000, and this is almost twice the rate of the increase seen in breast augmentation procedures.

The surge of women undergoing breast lift surgery could be attributed to a variety of things. People are placing increasing value on Silhouettes of 3 fashionable girls on a white backgroundyouthfulness, which may motivate women to get a breast lift because it achieves more youthful, perky breasts. In addition, new technologies and developments are continually improving the safety and efficacy of surgery, which decreases the hesitation women may have previously had. More women may also be becoming aware of the many benefits of this procedure. Regardless of your reason for wanting breast lift surgery, you can get breasts that are up to your standards.

Breast Lift Surgery Can Improve the Following:

  • Sagging breasts
  • Excess breast skin
  • Loss of breast firmness
  • Enlarged areolas
  • Areolas that hang below the breast crease

*It is important to note that breast lift surgery may slightly reduce the size of the breasts. Patients who would like an increase in the size as well as improvement to the position and shape of their breasts will most likely benefit from a breast augmentation (implants) combined with breast lift surgery.

The Surgery

Breast lift surgery removes excess skin and tightens the tissue to reshape and elevate the breasts. Incisions can be made around the areolas (doughnut), around the areolas and vertically down to the breast crease (lollipop), or around the areola, vertically down the breast, and horizontally along the breast crease (anchor). If necessary, the nipples can be reduced and/or moved to a higher position.
