Although most people are concerned about signs of aging in their faces, the hands can also reveal a person’s age. As time passes, the hands become wrinkled as fat volume decreases, and the skin becomes thin with less elasticity. Sun spots start to appear, and veins and bones may begin to show through the skin.Beautiful female hands with no nailpolish on a white background

Hand rejuvenation treatment can restore volume and improve signs of aging to reveal smooth, youthful hands. The majority of patients who undergo a hand rejuvenation procedure are between 50 and 80 years old, but older and younger people with visible signs of aging in their hands can also benefit from hand rejuvenation.

One or a combination of the following procedures may be used for hand rejuvenation:

Laser Treatments

Laser skin treatments can improve fine lines, scars, veins, and age and sun spots for a more youthful hand appearance. Laser Skin Resurfacing and the Laser Genesis procedure improve pigmented lesions and also stimulate the natural production of collagen to restore volume and tighten the skin. The Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) procedure corrects signs of aging as well as redness, tiny veins, and brown spots.

Injectable Fillers

Injectable fillers, such as Restylane® and JUVÉDERM®, are ideal for treating skin laxity and wrinkles by adding volume to the hands. The Sculptra® Aesthetic injectable adds volume while also thickening the skin to reduce the visibility of bones and wrinkles beneath it. RADIESSE® is also a filler that stimulates the skin to produce collagen for long-lasting improvement. All of these fillers generally take less than a half hour for treatment and produce immediate results that last between six months and two years.

Fat Grafting

Fat grafting, also known as fat transfer, adds volume to the skin to improve the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and protruding bones. First, liposuction is used to remove unwanted fat from areas such as the abdomen or thighs. Once this fat is harvested, it is purified and then injected into the hands. Fat grafting has longer-lasting results than fillers, and it poses no risk of an allergic reaction because it is the patient’s own material.
