There are various procedures available to “lift” different areas of the face. Their titles may sound self-explanatory, but depending on the results you desire, you may be surprised to find which procedure would be best for you. What's the difference between a brow lift and eyelid lift?

BROW LIFT

A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, repositions the muscles and tissues of the forehead and eliminates excess skin to raise the eyebrows and reduce frown lines.

A brow lift targets:

  • Creases across the forehead
  • Wrinkles high on the bridge of the nose, between the eyes
  • Sagging brows that may form a hood over the upper eyelid

The brow lift procedure is customized to meet individual patient needs. A coronal brow lift involves an incision from ear to ear along the hairline. The endoscopic approach involves smaller incisions within the hairline. Through these incisions, the tissues are adjusted to eliminate deep forehead wrinkles and frown lines and to raise drooping eyebrows.

What a brow lift does not do:

Although a brow lift can improve sagging over the eyelids, it only improves this if it is due to a drooping brow. The brows and the eyelids are affected by different muscles and should be seen as two different areas of the face. An eyelid lift will more precisely target sagging eyelids if that is the primary concern. If a patient has both forehead wrinkles and sagging eyelids, they should consider combining both procedures.

EYELID LIFT

An eyelid lift, also called blepharoplasty, repositions the muscles and tissues of the eyelids (upper and/or lower) and eliminates excess skin to restore a more rested, alert, and youthful appearance.

An upper eyelid lift targets:

  • Puffiness in the upper eyelids
  • Folds or an unnatural contour in the upper eyelid
  • Sagging tissues that may hang over the eyes and impair vision

A lower eyelid lift targets:

  • Excess skin and fine wrinkles in the lower eyelid
  • Bags under the eyes
  • Droopiness below the eyes

What an eyelid lift does not do:

The upper and lower eyelid lift is the best procedure to target sagging skin and tissues in the eyelid area. The eyelid lift will not change other areas of the face, but it is one of the best procedures to produce an overall younger, more refreshed appearance.
